ABOUT

Ruapehu Brewing Co. is an independent brewery based in Ohakune, Ruapehu, Aotearoa. Founded by Austin Hobson in 2017, the brewery began in a small heritage railway station building in Ohakune's Junction area. As the district's first brewery, the space was tiny — but the Tetris game was strong, and it pushed out plenty of beer for the local community.

Austin, originally from Bristol, England, developed a passion for brewing through his family's influence. After travelling the world as a devoted snowboarder, he settled in Ohakune and established Ruapehu Brewing Co. He still leads brewing operations today, making beer that carries the adventurous spirit of the mountain and the district.

In 2023 our Unlimited Vis Hazy IPA was named in the Top 30 at the New World Beer & Cider Awards — national recognition that put RBC on the map — and we've taken a People's Choice award at a beer festival along the way.

We brew from a small production space at Rear Unit, 27 Goldfinch Street, Ohakune. It's a working brewery rather than a bar, and our sights are set on a proper taproom in the heart of town.

You'll find our beer across Ohakune and the Ruapehu district — in supermarkets, bottle stores and on tap in local bars. See the full list on our stockists page.

Cheers to the journey ahead at RBC.
