ABOUT
Ruapehu Brewing Co. is an independent brewery based in Ohakune, Ruapehu, Aotearoa. Founded by Austin Hobson in 2017, the brewery began its journey in a small heritage railway station building in Ohakune's Junction area. As the district's first brewery, our humble space may have been tiny, but our Tetris game was strong, allowing us to push out plenty of beer for our local community.
Austin, originally from Bristol, England, developed a passion for brewing from his family’s influences. After traveling the world as a devoted snowboarder, he settled in Ohakune and established Ruapehu Brewing Co. Today, he leads our brewing operations, creating beers that capture the adventurous spirit of the area.
Thanks to the support of our local community, Ruapehu Brewing Co. has expanded into a larger space and in 2023, our "Unlimited Vis" Hazy IPA received national recognition by being named in the Top 30 of the New World Beer & Cider Awards, which helped put RBC on the national map. We also celebrated winning a People's Choice award at a small beer festival, further solidifying our commitment to crafting quality brews.
Currently, our cellar door is open for takeaway beer, offering you the chance to enjoy our brews while we look forward to developing a more immersive taproom experience in the heart of Ohakune.
